Congratulations are in order for our CPG-2 specialists.

Glass Rite is proud to announce that the company now employs two qualified CPG-2 specialists in our Draughting & Estimations department: Sibonelo Mantengu & the recently qualified Emma-Lize Steyn.

Glass can be dangerous and temperamental and needs to be handled with knowledge and care by professionally qualified people to ensures optimal safety and success on all projects, upholding the standards and objectives of the industry to guarantee the quality and workmanship.

As a qualified Competent Person – Glazing Category 2 (CPG-2) both Sibonelo and Emma-Lize are members of South African Glass Institute (SAGI). With CPG-2 qualified personnel Glass Rite is able to design according to SANS 10400 regulations. All technical drawings are then handed to a CPG-1 (mentor) for approval.

The duties of a CPG-2 qualified employee at Glass Rite include costing of tenders; shop drawings & design for submission; procurement of material; issuing of these drawings to the factory for production; glass calculation according to AAAMSA & SANS 10400 regulations.

The SAGI has the following objectives regarding the glass industry in South Africa:

  • The promotion of the use and acknowledgement of glass and Glass Technology;

  • To serve and protect the interests of clients by enforcing the Institute’s disciplinary code;

  • To ensure high standards of professional competence and conduct on the part of its members;

  • To promote and facilitate education and training for those practising or wishing to practice in Glass Technology;

  • To determine standards for admission to the various classes of membership of the Institute and too provide means for testing the qualification of candidates for admission to the appropriate classes of membership;

  • To provide a forum for the exchange of views and information on matters pertaining to Glass Technology and related matters;

Some projects Sibonelo has worked on before joining the Glass Rite team include skylights at Mall of Africa and retail pods at Alice Lane. Emma-Lize has worked on various projects for Glass Rite, including Virgin Active Sandton; Phola Park shopping centre and shop drawings for Menlyn Maine. She is currently also busy with the new Kwaggafontein Mall.
